We know our customers value sustainability as much as we do - so we partner with factories we trust, and whenever possible make products from recycled materials.

Our Materials

Recycled Ripstop Nylon

All of our Ripstop Nylon styles, including our namesake reusable bags, are made with 40% recycled material. We're using a recycled nylon filament yarn produced from pre-consumer waste, which means we're saving scrap material from landfill, and in turn helping conserve petroleum resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We also use environmentally responsible dyes that are fully absorbed by the material during production, minimizing runoff.

Why 40%?

The short answer is: It's a better product! By weaving recycled and non-recycled fibers together, we're able to produce a bag that's ready for everyday use and meets the standards of strength and durability our customers have come to expect.

Recycled Canvas

Nearly all of our cotton canvas bags are made from 65% recycled cotton made from pre-consumer waste recovered during the creation of other cotton products (like t-shirts and socks) that would otherwise have gone to a landfill.

Why 65%?

When cotton is recycled, the process breaks down its natural fibers, resulting in shorter “staple” fibers than would be found in virgin cotton. Spinning together recycled and virgin cotton fibers results in a more sustainable canvas fabric that still meets our high standards of strength and durability.

Leather

We use full and top grain leathers in our leather line. “Full-grain” refers to hides that have not been altered to remove natural marks on the hide, whereas “top-grain” leather has undergone a finishing process for a more smooth, uniform texture. We use smart construction methods to avoid creating excess hide waste, and assemble some of our smaller items from scrap material.

Our Practices

Reusable Bag Construction

To minimize waste and increase durability, our reusable bags are assembled from one continuous piece of recycled nylon material, with the neck of the bag used to construct the carrying pouch. The pouch is intentionally separate from the bag, as it is much easier to fold and insert the bag into the pouch when it’s detached! Proper storage will also ensure your bag lasts longer. Secured with double stitched seams, each bag can hold up to 30 lbs.

Manufacturing

Our products are ethically manufactured in China, where we have long standing relationships with our ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 140001 certified  manufacturers. For our product line and the materials we work with, China offers the most advanced manufacturing technology and ethical work practices. Manufacturing facilities are audited yearly by an independent third party to ensure they are upholding standards of occupational health and safety, and humane work hours and wages are enforced.

Our Packaging

BAGGU products are designed to eliminate material waste, and we hold our packaging to the same standards! As part of this effort, all paper materials that accompany our products—from paper sleeves down to your packing slip—are recyclable. All hang-tag strings are made from 100% cotton and the polybags our products ship in are all biodegradable.

Bag Recycling

We’re proud to work with American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS), who is committed to keeping textiles out of landfills and making recycling easier. Any nylon or canvas bag collected will either be recycled and repurposed, or shared within the second-hand clothing market and in-need organizations.

When your nylon or canvas bag has schlepped its last load, we encourage you to drop it off at any of our store locations, or ship it to:

ATRS SoCal
